Funded by the Federal Ministry for Research and Education and the European Social Fund, the MINTiFF initiative (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology and equal opportunities in TV drama formats) invites you to the 2nd International Conference to encourage exchange and networking between the science community and the television entertainment industry. Again the conference takes place in the course of the International Media Congress at medienwoche@IFA.

In this German "Year of Science 2011 – Research for Our Health" the successful American TV series "House, MD” is presented as an example of a TV production in which modern medical diagnostic methods are not just a source of high value entertainment and ratings success, but also inspire innovations in medical teaching in German universities through their educational content.

The focus of the subsequent discussion is where German film makers see opportunities and creative leeway for medical education in TV drama formats and for emphasizing the public value of fictional television entertainment.

Which program strategies the BBC pursues in terms of quality and public value when creating drama programs is the topic of the following talk and provides the opportunity to discuss how quality and public value of drama formats can be developed and evaluated.

The conference will be the starting point for the 3rd “MINTiFF Idea Competition” providing incentive and support for the development of ambitious ideas for TV productions with STEM and equal opportunities at their center. Aimed at experienced German scriptwriters and content development teams, the competition
rewards the three best concepts with 10.000 Euros each in the form of MINTiFF-Fellowships that also include scientific advice from experts in the areas of STEM and equal opportunities.

The last panel, titled "Secure Identity: From Fiction to Reality - A tightrope walk between know-how- and privacy-protection," is organized in cooperation with Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPK). It provides insights into an exciting and highly relevant public issue. The opportunities and risks of this topic can stimulate and enrich the development of innovative drama formats in various ways.

The conference is funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and by the European Social Funds as well as by the „Stifterverband for the German science system“ and the „Heinz-Nixdorf Foundation“.
